To Whom it May Concern.
Public schools should switch to a 4-day school week. Switching to a 4-day school week would better support teachers and help them prepare. It would also increase flexibility within family households. Finally, it would provide on-the-job training and experiences for children on their off days. An off day would help teachers, improve sleep and family time, and help students even out their time for work and sports.
A schedule change would benefit teachers. In “Is a Four-Day School Week the Answer to Improving Education?” An article adapted from NewsELA states, “giving teachers those Mondays revs them up so they can do more with the new four days than the old five.better-prepared teachers means better students,”(NewsELA 3). This tells us that with a four-day school week, teachers can better adapt or change lessons specifically for where the class is at. In “4-Day School Weeks: New Research Examines the Benefits and Drawbacks,” an article by Stephen Sawchuk makes it clear that “a significant proportion spent their(students) off-day engaged in household activities or with family. students reporting increased sleep.less fatigued”(Sawchuk 5). It is known that family time and sleep are reduced due to homework and stress from school, so an increase in both is a change both parents and students like. This also increases attendance due to letting doctors or other commitments happen without taking the child away from school.
