The career I chose is a pediatrician. Pediatricians are doctors for young people, from birth to adolescence. The oldest patient a pediatrician has is usually twenty-one. A pediatrician provides preventive health maintenance for healthy children and medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill. They diagnose illnesses, recommend treatment, and may communicate with social workers, family members and other health care professional, such as nurses or specialized doctors. Pediatricians manage the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of their patients, in every stage of development-in good health or in illness. Some pediatricians will also work in a collego or university as a professor on the side, or as a part-time jov after retiremnt. Similarly to other doctors, they work very long hours. Most average bwteen 9 and 12 hours a day, or 45 to 60 hours a week. The schedule of a pediatrician may be irregular. It mgiht be necessary to work evenings or weekends. The starting salary is usually around $135,000 per year. The median salary is anywhere from 175-221 thousand dollars per year. Benefits of a pediatrician include life and health insurance, pension plans, paid vacation and sick days. However, these benefits are only for if you work for a clinic or hospital.
