Hello, my name is Abigail Tan. I am a 7th grader at Lincoln Middle School. In my class we read the book A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park. It is the story of a boy named Salva who had to cross through many different countries to get to refugee camps and escape the civil war between Sudan and South Sudan. Nya is the fictional character who shows readers what the young girls have to go through to get water for her family, even though it is unhealthy, it is all they have. Salva started an organization called Water for South Sudan, which I started in class. I learned that Salva helps communities by putting a well in just one village and it can save lives. This led to many other people who wanted to start fundraising money to reach the goal of building a well. Our class is simulating a walk for water to experience the walks that people in South Sudan have to do to get water. I hope you will consider donating money to Water for South Sudan. The well can help the people of South Sudan to live longer and healthier. Women and children have to walk hundreds of miles a day just to get water for their families; women and children walk miles daily and a day and they never have the time to learn something. Their education levels are not that high. A well can help many girls and boys get an education by saving them time. Many people don’t have a lot of money, and they don’t have opportunities to make money. People who can not make money by themselves can make a living by getting well in their village by opening a store to sell items so that they can make enough money to sustain themselves and their loved
