While reading “A Song in the Front Yard” I found it very relatable, not just to me, but to everyone because we all have wants, for this reason, and because I find harlem renaissance poems interesting I chose this poem.
At first glance, the poem seems to be about a girl who is fed up with the front yard and wants to go into the backyard “A girl gets sick of a rose. I want to go in the back yard now” (Brooks). I interpreted that as someone who was done with living in confinement and wanted to be able to do what others could.
