The monk and the block are touching side by side. The block is filled in a light yellow ochre shade and is reminiscent of some sort of highly patterned stamp. Within the block are three long perpendicular panels. The central panel holds the most detail and is composed of many small noodle-like lines layered upon each other beautifully. The two outer panels are decorated with numerous little ‘connect-the-dots’ designs that resemble asterisms you’d see in the night’s sky. Although there is an overwhelming sense of old history embedded into her work, she is essentially inspired by both ancient and current times. Similarly, there is a mix of diverse cultural influences throughout her art work. While she is clearly focused on Chinese culture, there are moments where western images and culture is seen throughout some of her work. With the use of transparent layer, glazes and drips of paint, Liu manages to create and sense of both an old and a new world fused into one. Her work gives off the impression of a fading memory or dream within a current moment. Elements of her work appear to be getting created, reinvented and destroyed
