The title wasn't asking if you need a weapon, in particular, a firearm. You need a firearm, but do you need an AR-15 is the question. Any object can be considered a weapon, but a firearm is a unique weapon, a weapon that has changed the course of history, and one that has allowed humans to become apex predators.
We can face any predator and be on equal ground with the right firearm, and with the right training and most importantly with the will to use said firearm you can come out the winner.
Let's face it, without a way of defending ourselves the common housecat could back us into a corner. They have claws for shredding flesh and teeth that can grip the throats of prey. Can we do that with our fingernails, …show more content…
Okay an AR-15 can shoot fast right, well it can only shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger, however, and so the myth that it can fire 700 rounds-per-minute is just that a myth.

The higher capacity magazine of the AR-15 is what makes it an ideal self-defense weapon. Do you really need to fire 30 rounds downrange, as fast as you can pull the trigger, however? Well, you might in a firefight against an overwhelming force, but if you are in that kind of a situation, then you may have lost the battle before it begins. You would be out of Ammo in short order and if you cannot control the situation in 10 rounds or less then you have a battle on your
