I attended an AA meeting in Johnson City, I found out about the meeting online in AA of the Tricities. It was an easy location to find and a good neighborhood. I think it is very easy for people to access it. They also offer a 24-hour hotline as well. They have open and closed meetings and for different things. The meeting I attended there were around 10-12 people there along with me. They provide meetings with just women, or just men. And then there are open and closed meetings. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and learned a lot about these people and their lives. I didn’t speak myself though I said I was only observing. When I got to the meeting it was somewhat awkward for me and that I didn’t know if they had expected me to talk or what so I was freaked out about that at first. But along the way I got somewhat comfortable and hearing the others talk and listening to them my heart went out to them. They worked with each other and were very supportive. I love attending and observing new things. It was a new experience for me to encounter and I’m so glad that I did. Everyone was very inviting and were doing well in their meetings. I was of course scared at the first and didn’t know what could happen or if I would talk or not. But observing is the best way for me to enclose what is happening and get a full effect of things. I would most definitely refer this to a client that asked about AA meetings. It was very inviting and they gave a lot of options for groups of just women/men, closed, and open for anyone. This is a good group for people to attend that need help and I would refer anyone who asks. It was my first experience and can’t compare anywhere else so I am going with my first experience and hope to sometime in the future attend a narcotics anonymous meeting.
