Addams Family Play Review When I went to see the Addams Family play, a live musical production at my school, I thought the play was very invigorating and captivating. I feel that the actors each played the roles they were given to the best of their abilities. From the moment the play started, I felt that each actor was well in sync with the character they were playing. I loved the set, props, and costumes that the Columbus High School Theater set up and organized prior to the play. My favorite characters in the play were Morticia and Gomez Addams, as I felt their synchronization and dynamics throughout the play. However, Wednesday was faced with the quarrel of revealing this very important yet intimidating secret to her mother as she knew she would profoundly object to the marriage. Instead she came to her father (Gomez Addams) with advice and questions about what she should do. In turn, her father told her he would handle the situation and ultimately ended up keeping the childrens’ proposal and romance a secret from his wife. Which would later prove detrimental to his own relationship. From the very beginning it was clear that the theater production team, cast, and crew extended a lot of effort into capturing this play and bringing it to life. Their work profoundly reflected in the finished product of the play and was noticed by all. Throughout the play, when characters would monologue, sing, or when an emotion was expressed on stage, the lighting would change to match the tone of the situation. We noticed whenever “Gomez Addams” was about to monologue when speaking to his wife, the lights would turn red to advertise his internal conflict as keeping a secret from his wife.
