The San Antonio Metropolitan Transportation Authority paid wages to its employees because it was required by the Fair Labor Standards Act. They thought that they could pay their employers less because they didn’t think that the Federal Government had the power to make them pay them enough because of the tenth amendment. They thought that because had their own state power, and they could not listen to Federal Guidelines. After the San Antonio Metropolitan Transportation Authority started to pay them less, Gracia and other employers sued. The case was then taken to the supreme court and with a 5-4 decision of the court, Garcia won the case.
The tenth amendment expresses that states have their individual power over the Federal Government. It was concluded that the Federal Government had not exceeded its powers and it was not unconstitutional. The law did not regulate any state in a way that violated their authority.
