The characteristics of racial and ethnic groups differences in American culture has always been of great interest to me. Although I am of the African American heritage, I have learned that there are many cultural and ethnicity differences within the group of African Americans. The ethnicity of African Americans is usually the skin color mostly dark brown skin color, however, the experience and language are also significant to this group. Subsequently there are many shades of skin tones among African Americans today, because of many years of biological breeding with Europeans, Native Americans, and Asians (O’Neal, 2006). He found that an approximation of 9 billion dollars per year is spent in the American black hair industry. He also learned that African America/ black women “make up about 6.5 percent of the population,” purchase up to “40 percent of all hair care products” (Rock. 2009). Today we are so very proud of our hair, and are teaching our children to be proud because it is an important part of who we are. African American authors are writing books for children such as, Nappy Hair, by Carolivia Herron, and I Love My Hair, by Natasha Anastasia Tarpley, thatare teaching our children how special they are and unique and different are their hair. This is a concept that stands out among all the other racial and ethnic groups characteristics I love the book’s pictures on the covers. Then there are situations where businesses have closed or moved out of the areas they live in since funds are not available they are unable to relocate to where the jobs for employment are available. (TCO
