According to Dictionary.com a slave is defined as, “A person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.” Slavery was a necessary evil to better the development of the country we have today. They were a significant part of the foundation of America as well. Slaves are not just African Americans, they can be Native Americans, as well as Irish Americans (however, they are introduced further into the future of our learning). Slavery was an imperative part of the 4 main events that I will be discussing in this essay; The discovering of the “New World”, or what is now known as America, the Triangular Trade, the 7 Years War, as well as the Revolutionary War. As 4th graders, we are taught the rhyme, “Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492”, this is when we start learning about the history of the country we live in. Christopher Columbus was the first person to enslave another human being in the “New World”. However, the race that he enslaved was not African American, it was the indigenous people of America. Columbus wrote in his journal that, “they would make good servants,”1 and he decided to tyrannize the Indians (as Columbus referred to them as). Since the Native Americans knew the land, how to farm on the soil, and where natural abundant substances were, they served as a permanent tour guide for the Spaniards. The role …show more content…
Since this was America’s first war, we seeked out assistance from the slaves and Native Americans that had been settling in the English Colony. The 7 Years War was basically a disagreement between Americans and Colonial Franc regarding land. Slaves had a couple roles during this time period, these include; continuing to farm for food and supplies for the American troops as well as serving as soldiers in the troops. Slavery played a crucial part in this war, they were one of the reasons that we stayed afloat during the multiple battles that we partook
