As an African-American Male Student-Athlete, the determination to have my voice heard on this issue was monumental; therefore, writing my second essay on “College Athletic Programs Preference: African-American Male Athlete-Students V. African-American Male Student-Athletes” allowed me to unleash my suppressed feelings on the topic. One night I stayed up late writing on this topic full speed to release the disappointment that I feel as an African-American man, and my first draft demonstrated my pain. However, this essay was challenging because of the limited amount of scholarly resources available on the topic; therefore, I had to piece together my argument using a variety of scholarly sources to prove my stance on the issue. Of course, I was able to find a gazillion negative scholarly articles on the downfall of the African-American Male Athlete-Students, but only one scholarly article on the African-American Student-Athletes. In this essay, my determination to have my voice and the process of academic writing exist on the same page was the goal. However, because of the speed of my writing due to my emotions, I fell short on my delivery, especially the conclusion.
