You may have walked into the store and saw an Alka-Seltzer box or even used one of these tablets. Alka-Seltzer is used to relieve minor aches, pains, inflammation, fever, headache, heartburn, stomachache, and indigestion while attacking excess stomach acid. This product was invented in the year of 1931. Another version of Alka-Seltzer was made to relieve colds and flu; this was called Alka-Seltzer Plus and was introduced later. An original effervescent Alka-Seltzer tablet contains three ingredients which are aspirin, sodium bicarbonate, and citric acid. As soon as the tablets hit the water sodium bicarbonate and citric acid react with each other to form bubbles of carbon dioxide gas.
