I disagree with this quote because you cannot paint a picture of someone's personality based on materialistic items. Your clothes, electronics, etc cannot define your character. They can reveal attributes, but to reveal your personality, you need to go more in depth of the person to paint a picture of their personality. Although material items cannot paint a picture of someone's personality, it does shape your life. For example, purchasing the “instyle” clothes to keep up with social norms. Unconsciously we trick ourselves into being afraid of non acceptance from others. Soon enough you're buying nonchalantly to be accepted when in all actuality your clothes are supposed to represent your appearance. But instead you allow yourself to be consumed by what's deemed acceptable. Subsequently you're buying just to buy, your items have no real value to you. Now that doesn't mean you're supposed to have a relationship with all of your material goods, but some stuff should have meaning to you. For example, my mom's bible that she gave to me filled with notes of when I fall on tough times. A day before classes started I was nervous and overwhelmed with fear. I opened to where my mom left the bookmark, psalms 3 to be exact. On the page was a picture of her holding my hand when I was one years old.
