Paige Garner Mrs. Mitchell English III CP, period 45 13 September 2023 American Dream and the Modern Day Struggles The underlying meaning of the term “American Dream” is the idea that the government should protect all people’s opportunity to pursue their own idea of happiness (Amadeo). While many people still come to America to chase the same dream, in today's society the opportunity for all, is in trouble. Teichner is a member of the AA. Despite the modern day challenges people face such as being squeezed by rising costs, declining wages, credit-card debt and diminished benefits (Wallechinsky), and lack of resources, the same “American Dream” is still trying to be pursued everyday. The American Dream, often associated with the ideals of freedom, opportunity, and equality, has consistently drawn immigrants to the United States for generations. Colin Powell states in an article, “Refugees who have no home at all know that America is their land of dreams.
