American Society For Deaf Children is a non-profit self-working organization. The original name before was “The International Association of Parents of Deaf Children” which was founded in 1967. The program's purpose is to support and give information to families with children who are deaf. They teach children how to sign with the basic information. They show them how to embrace the deaf culture, and how to respect it. Many parents when they find out about their child having this disability they don't know how to understand their kids or understand the knowledge to take care of them. Knowing that there's an organization out there helping families gives hope to many families. Without being educated a child can get into accidents and not be able to hear their parents call for them. According to National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) “One in eight people in the United States (13 percent, or 30 million) aged 12 years or older has hearing loss in both ears, based on standard hearing examinations.” The American Society For Deaf Children has been shown to help, and change the outcome of many lives. According to Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center, deaf education has been around for about 200 years in America. It all started with two men by the names of Laurent Clerc and Thomas Hopkins Gallant. These men traveled across the Atlantic ocean and brought education about deaf to Hartford, Connecticut. Thanks to Laurent Clerc, and Thomas Hopkins Gallant there was a school called Gallant. This school was specially made for people who suffer from hearing loss. Spreading education about deaf is to show others who are faced with this disability that they are perfect just the way they are.
