Pearl Harbor an american naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii was bombed by Japan. Just before eight o'clock a.m. on December seventh, nineteen forty one. Hundreds of japanese fighter planes attacked the naval base with full force. The japanese destroyed twenty american vessels which included eight huge battleships and three hundred airplanes. Over two thousand were killed and one thousand were injured. The next day president Franklin Roosevelt asked congress to declare war on Japan, congress approved with one vote. Three days later Japan's allies Germany and Italy also declared war on the United States. The United States was now exactly where they hoped they would not be, right in the middle of WWII.

The americans definitely did not see this coming, it was a complete shock because one the location of pearl harbor was four thousand miles away from japan, and two flights of B-seventeens from the united states where expected so when large groups of japanese aircrafts were flying towards the base the workers were told not to sound the alarm. The japanese air force also used techniques, the used the kamikaze japanese suicide pilots to attack allied warships and kill as many men as possible. First at seven o two a.m. air crafts were sighted on the radar but when the military men thought it was the United States, it was really Japan, who then pulled a surprise attack. At seven fifty five a.m. A japanese dive bomber was seen above Oahu, Hawaii with three hundred sixty japanese war planes following.The air attack was a complete surprise for the United States resulting in great damage. Five battleships, seven other ships, and three destroyers were damaged or sunk. Two thousand four hundred americans lost their lives and one thousand two hundred sixty were injured. As you can see the japanese and the United States already had conflict but nobody expected japan to attack pearl harbor. The attack resulted in the president declaring war on Japan, which caused Germany and Italy to declare war on us, and put us in WWII. The casualties were awful for the United States, which I have listed but Japan also had casualties from their attack. Japan lost thirty planes, not even one hundred men, and five small submarines.
