This act can be interpreted in another way that includes actually being nice, or just being a good friend. George shot him, but for a good reason and that was so Curly wouldn't find him because if he found him, he would've done the worst things possible to him because he wasn't happy about Lennie killing his wife. If Curly found Lennie, there would be a list of things to do to him to make him "pay" for what he has done. One thing that he could've done is to call the police and he would be in jail for a long time since it was murder and jail, at the time, was one of the worst places you can be. Another thing that he could've done was taking him to an insane asylum which was also like jail. Another thing he could've done was to make him his prisoner
