In the poem “She Walks in Beauty,” Lord Byron expresses a mysterious tone throughout the poem. Romantics worked to find a fascination with the mystery in people and they strived to find the supernatural in people as a sign of the new Romantic movement. Byron develops his selected mysterious tone through words of diction by explaining what this beautiful mysterious woman looks like. Byron also uses his choice of imagery to express his meaning of words by creating an image to imagine. For example he describes the lady as soft and calm giving an image of a small beautiful woman but then he adds she is eloquent meaning she is an above average woman that is full of life. Being described as two different types of people gives off a mysterious feeling about this lady. Lord Byron has a mysterious tone throughout his poem “She Walks in Beauty” when it comes to describing the mysterious lady dressed in black. He gives her a dark meaning inside and out. She is wearing a black dress and he hints to her having a dark evil soul. She is a lady who walks by everyone with beauty and grace but doesn’t show her real character. One phrase that stuck out to me the most is “A heart whose love is innocent.” Diction means the author’s choice of words. Lord Byron uses this phrase because his word choice gives it a more dramatic feeling to go along with the dramatic appearance the dark lady gives as she walks past everyone. In this phrase he is saying she has a heart with love that is true but she has to find that special person to treat her right. Lord Byron was an abusive man and his wife left him because of it. She could be this dark mysterious woman that is looking for true love and belonging from someone but can not find a way to make peace within her inner self because of the abuse she put up with in past
