In the world we live in today, health and wellness issues have become a major epidemic affecting the younger and older people in all five components of health that we have discussed in class. The five components of health that we have discussed are; physical, mental, financial, spiritual, and social. Many people believe that nutrition and health create wellness and only a physical state, however only being able to look at wellness as one aspect i.e. physically, creates a narrow mindset of total wellness. As a nutrition major it is important for us to learn all aspects of health, not only the physical aspects. My opinion, I do not believe that there is one component of health and that is more important than the other. I believe this because each one of them coincide together and creating total wellness and without one the others will be weakened as well. Have you and the day generally people are going to believe that physical wellness is going to have the longest lasting effects. This may be true in some instances; however, mental and social health easily have long-lasting effects as well. In the story of Blanca and Antonio, Blanca struggles with Financial problems. Blanca spends little money on food and as a result generally does not and up buying the healthiest option for her and her family. Due to a low socioeconomic status, Blanca’s overall health and well-being are greatly affected. Blanca suffers from diabetes and requires insulin on a daily basis while Antonio suffers from high cholesterol levels.
