Power over certain things and people can often be overwhelming and can lead to a rush of euphoria due to the immense amount of control one has. This is demonstrated in George Orwell’s well-known and cleverly written book, Animal Farm. The popular tale that is so well written embodies the events that have occurred during the Russian Revolution in 1917. Not only did it document these events, but it also documented Stalin’s wicked rise to power. In this cynical allegory that occurred in old English times on Manor Farm, which symbolically stood for Russia, Orwell portrays the history of Russian Revolution through animals, dividing them among classes and social statuses. Because the pigs were the most intelligent, the animals instantaneously gave the pigs leadership over their own. They eventually took it upon themselves to organize the Rebellion and find ways to help the common good of the animals. The animals finally decided that enough was enough and chased off Jones. After overthrowing Jones and his men, the animals rejoiced and were ready to work in order to benefit themselves. This represents the time in history when Tsar Nicholas II was overthrown by the Bolsheviks and the proletariats under the orders of Vladimir Lenin. However, embodying the USSR, the animals renamed Manor Farm “Animal Farm”, and became a representative democracy, where “the pigs vote on all issues as representatives” (https://prezi.com/_ah6fwj0bit1/governments-of-animal-farm/). Other farms heard about the Rebellion from the pigeons that would fly each day and spread the word to other animals all over. They would spread the world near and far too many different farms in hopes to persuade other animals to overthrow their human owners. Not only would the pigeons do that, but they would also teach the animals on other farms the “Beast of England.” The pigeons represent the press and media coverage. Sometimes, however, the pigeons would only spread what the pigs wanted them to, so in a sense, they worked together. The pigs were overcome with power and control of such a mass of animals. They started taking away their freedom of speech to rebel against anything they say and other basic citizen rights. Napoleon chasing off Snowball signified when Stalin banished Trotsky from the USSR forevermore. Napoleon slowly but surely became the dictator of the farm and the farm converted over from communism to Stalinism. Stalinism is basically like communism but only Stalin himself can change it. Some citizens in the USSR rebelled against the Stalin, much like the hens were pushing eggs off the roof in rebellion against Napoleon. The hens characterized the peasant farmers that didn’t think it was fair to give up their crops, and were eventually starved by Stalin. However, most of the people who rebelled against Stalin were immediately slaughtered or were assassinated. Because of this, most citizens were scared to speak out against him in fear of being
