The Puritans didn’t like the way King Charles was doing things concerning their religion, so Anne and her father, mother, husband, and siblings all moved to America. They soon settled in Massachusetts, where the Puritans later started a “Godly Commonwealth” group. The people who accompanied the Dudley and Bradstreet family to their move to America were the Winthrop group. Her father later became a member of the gentry. While Anne was first settling is Massachusetts, she began writing poems, her family saw that she actually really good at it and they encouraged her to keep writing. It helped a lot that Anne was well educated due to the position of her family, whom helped establish Harvard University. As Anne began to write, her brother-in law noticed how great she was, but he also saw that she didn’t plan on publishing her work. In 1647, he secretly took her work and anonymously sent it to England to attempt to get it published. It 1650, it was published as “The Tenth Muse Lady Sprung Up in America.” This event sparked the beginning of her journey of the writer we know her
