Anne Bradstreet was born in Northampton, England, 1612 to a wealthy family. Her father was Thomas Dudley, a steward of the Earl of Lincoln and Dorothy Yorke. She was an extremely well educated woman for her time, probably due to her father’s social status. She would marry Simon Bradstreet at the age of sixteen, a well educated man who graduated university. The following two years she would take up the journey of migrating from the old world, to the new world. She embarked on a famous ship some might know, named The Arbella, which also housed the famous John Withrop. On June 14, 1630 she had made to Massachusetts colony, landing near a famous piece of history, Salem Massachusetts. She would move south to help in the founding of Boston and would finally end up in Cambridge. She would not just help found cities but in fact, her and her husband helped in the founding of Harvard in 1636, where two of her sons would graduate in the years 1635 and 1660. After the burning down of their North Andover family home, the Bradstreets were left home less for some time. She lost almost everything in that fire and her health was not the best in shape. She was suffering from tuberculosis and also lost relatives, but her will and faith remained strong.
