How does Anorexia affect many people in the United States? Anorexia Nervosa is a common eating disorder that cause people to obsess about their body weight and what they eat. According to the National Eating Disorder Association, in the United States, up to thirty million people, all ages and genders suffer from Anorexia Nervosa once they experienced puberty. It has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Suffers chose to not come forward to get the help they deserve because of embarrassment and confusion of their problem.

If anorexia nervosa is not treated or diagnosed, it can lead to hospitalization, health issues, and even death. The reason behind this is because people suffering from anorexia lack healthy diet solutions and nutrition. About two or three percent of suffers are fifty-six times more likely to commit suicide than people not suffering from the mental illness. Hospitalizations caused from anorexia are most likely to happen to young children under the age of twelve years old. People suffering the illness make themselves vomit after meals almost every day and take laxatives to help them lose more weight. (https://www.mirror-mirror.org/eating-disorders-statistics.htm)
