Anorexia Nervosa Disorder
Anorexia Nervosa is a mental disorder that has pedestrians limiting the amount of food they eat. The reason they do that is because individuals fear gaining weight or think that they are overweight. Anorexia nervosa leads to dramatic weight loss that is not healthy for their age, height, or sex. It increases the chance of an earlier death According to the DSM-5 this mental disorder is placed under “Feeding and Eating Disorders.” (DSM-5). The individuals will also exercise heavily and force themselves to throw up. Anorexia can affect all types of people and can occur at any age but, it is most common in adolescents. Some include dramatic weight loss, refuses to eat certain foods, comments a lot about feeling fat or calories in food, even though they are underweight. Some physical signs muscle weakness, feeling cold all the time, sleep problems, fainting, dizziness, dry skin or thinning hair. Those are just a couple of examples but, there is many more. In order to get diagnosed a person has to meet the diagnostic criteria. It is restriction of energy leading into a greatly low body weight for that individual's sex, age, physical health and developmental trajectory. Intense fear of being overweight or gaining weight, even though the individual is underweight. Bothered by one’s body shape or weight. That person is under the influence of body weight or denies how serious their low body weight is. In order to find out how serious the mental disorder is. The doctors will measure the patient's body mass index (BMI). Mild anxiety is more than 17 kg, moderate is 16 to 16.99 kg, sereve is 15 to 15.99kg and extreme is less than 15 kg. (2018). A girl named Madelyn was age 14. She was in her gym class completing physical fitness assessment. The gym teacher would measure their height, weight and BMI. A medical doctor can count the calories that are needed to gain weight, A psychologist can help the individual develop behavioral strategies to help guide you into returning back into a healthy weight. A dietitian can provide eating plans and calorie requirements that will help the patient get to a healthy weight.A big support will be the patient’s family, they will help you get back to normal eating habits. There is family based therapy, individual and group therapy. The main goal is to help change distorted beliefs and thoughts that they have about their bodies. Something that challenges treatment is that people with anorexia may not want treatment. They believe that they do not need it, they can not admit the problem. They usually do not seek treatment until they end up in the hospital. The thing that people have to understand is that people with anorexia believe that anorexia is a lifestyle not a mental illness.
