Ladies and Gentlemen:
I am honored by your presence. I welcome you to a night of entertainment. You will witness a classic, Sophocles’ Antigone. This play has been translated and performed in a variety of different ways. In tonight’s theatrical production, you will witness this historic play with a futuristic twist. In tonight’s play, we find ourselves in the year 2045, situated in the palace of the infamous North Korean Supreme Leader, Kim Jong Kreon, known for abusing his governmental powers. As you all know, we live in a world filled with inequality. From the sex-trafficked victims of Southeast Asia to the world’s most powerful dictators, it is evident that power is not evenly distributed. Many dictators firmly believe …show more content…
The audience will see a large picture of the Kim dynasty line on the office’s wall. In the picture, each ruler of the Kim Jong family will be holding their hands out to the nation’s people, demonstrating that they want to guide them. This demonstrates that the Kim dynasty value the importance of looking over the nation. The nation’s people are drawn much smaller in the photo, bowing down to the ruling party, signifying that the ruling family has ultimate authority and demonstrating the importance of respecting the leaders of the …show more content…

Kim Jong Kreon, begins to look irritated. He has had enough of Sensei Tiresias’ criticism.

I won’t trade insults with you , prophet.

SENSEI TIRESIAS

You do when you call my prophecies false.

KIM JONG KREON

Your profession has always loved money.

SENSEI TIRESIAS

And tyrants have a penchant for corruption.

KIM JONG KREON

Kim Jong Kreon looks at Sensei Tiresias in disbelief, thinking he is unaware of his actions.

You know you’re abusing a king in power?

SENSEI TIRESIAS

Sensei Tiresias demonstrates that he is not ignorant, and using a strict, firm, assertive tone of voice, addresses Kim Jong Kreon directly.

You hold power because I helped you save Thebes.

KIM JONG KREON

You’re a shrewd prophet. But you love to cause harm.

SENSEI TIRESIAS

You’ll force me to say what’s clenched my heart.

KIM JONG KREON

Say it. Unless you’ve been paid to say it.

SENSEI TIRESIAS

I don’t think it will pay you to hear it.
