Curving, looping script dances across the page. A child's joy at finally being able to write in the way of their idols - their loving grandparents - rings out in the form of exclamations and laughs. Even though their penmanship is not yet as perfect as their elders, the child delights in their new way of expressing themselves and their maturation past simple printing. Despite the need to use cursive becoming outdated in our modern technological society, it is still a tool that many should want to learn as it connects us to our history and offers us an elegant way to express our personality in our writing without taking up the amount of time it takes for us to print. The history of cursive transcends literary options as the act of having such finely developed motor skills in order to write the same letters over and over again in perfect uniform shows the progress of humanity (Source D). The use of our hands is “one of the defining characteristics of our species” and it is valued far above simply being able to push buttons on a keyboard (Source D). One must admit, there is a beauty to cursive - which made it so common and widespread for such a long period of time - that it is too important to give up now in humanity’s journey. From having an elegant signature and nice handwriting to being naturally more organized, cursive is a tool to be applied for years to come, in any aspect of life. What about the hidden joys that the writer of cursive never gets to see?
