The process of trying to identify a person for this interview was hard because my definition of suffering was different than others. When most of us think about someone who was suffering we think of someone who is sad, unsuccessful, easy to spot, with fixable issues, cannot stop crying, and someone who avoids social contact. What led me to this friend was she had share this her suffering with my about a year ago. I would have never guessed that she was suffering in any way if she wouldn’t have told me what she was going through. She doesn’t look like someone who is suffering, she defies the stigma of mental illness. When you think you know someone so well, there is always something you don’t know. I wanted to find a person that was able to socialize, by hiding the struggle/suffering they are going through. The most difficult thing about choosing this person was trying to see if the friend saw herself as a sufferer; or if she knew she was going through a hard time and didn’t see herself as a sufferer it could be unsettling for me to ask her if I asked her to be interviewed for this project. If the person doesn’t know they are suffering, it is hard for them to feel ok with me interviewing them. Thus, it is important that the person sees themselves as a sufferer before I could choose them for this
