Generalized Anxiety (GAD) and Social Phobia are more typically seen in the school. Generalized anxiety disorder is characterized by persistent, excessive, and unrealistic worry about everyday things. Some Symptoms Of GAD are restlessness or feeling keyed up or on edge, being easily fatigued, difficulty concentrating or mind going blank, irritability, muscle tension and sleep disturbance. Social Anxiety/Phobia is the extreme fear of being scrutinized and judged by others in social or performance situations. Physical symptoms of social anxiety disorder may include blushing, profuse sweating, trembling, nausea or other abdominal distress, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, dizziness or lightheadedness, headaches, and feelings of detachment and loss of self-control. Test Anxiety is also common in school; it is type of performance anxiety, taking the test is the most difficult part of the equation. A review of her records supports the academic concerns and confirms Kimberly does not have a learning disability. Her cognitive functions ability shows some difficulty in her ability to process information and makes associations to information previously learned. Kimberly can benefit from more support within the school settings; she is more attentive in small groups and one on one teaching. Kimberly does meet the criteria for GAD anxiety disorder and test anxiety under the DSM-V, which supports her IEP diagnosis. Social and emotional concerns have become a current issues from parent and teacher, however Kimberly does report a good relationship with siblings. Having more relationships with peers her age can be beneficial to Kimberly. Overall in the school setting, Kimberly may benefit from more frequent counseling
