People loved to see their country succeed, and became more nationalistic when it actually happened. However, if a war was lost then their was a decrease in nationalistic identification, and more dissatisfaction of the government promoting revolts.

The citizens of their state formed civic institutions when their respective government wasn’t representing them enough. An example of this is the Chartists, a group of people that want that wanted UMS, annual elections, and secret ballots in Britain. Frankfurt parliament pushed for UMS in France. Additionally, the feminists pushed for female suffrage and the socialists pushed for UMS.
