War is the conflict between two enemies that have a specific reason to fight and when this is going to happen, but can war truly be just? The word just means morally right or fair. In war, there is always going to be a victor and the defeated. In 2003, the U.S. invaded Iraq after the 9/11 terrorist attack. The U.S. believed it was morally right to take away their government and invade their country because it would make them stable. Ever since then, the conflict between Iraq and the U.S. grew. ISIS (Islamic State of Syria and Iraq) is a group known for its brutal terrorist attacks. The question of war has been pondered by various authorities and even among Christians. They all ask the basic question, is it worth going to war? For Catholics certain criteria has to be met to go to war, this including a specific justification to go to war. In this case no justifications are met. The conflict between ISIS and the world would only grow, money will be wasted, and men’s lives will be taken away. Therefore, no war should be declared unless there is no other alternative for this situation.

Some people might be more familiar with the name ISIS or ISIL. This group has changed its name quite a few times. The Islamic State (IS) is the English translation for what the group calls itself today. ISIS is the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq, and took this name after the Syrian invasion in 2013. ISIL which is the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Mediterranean area of Middle East). This is what the USG’s official name for the group. President Obama, President Hollande, and Arab leaders began calling this group DAESH or DAESH. The group hates being called this. The word itself means “A bigot who imposes his views”
