Well that’s what big companies like Google,Volvo, Apple etc. are trying to complete that vision. Imagine a world where are there are no driver’s which brings me to this: The future is self-driving cars but first let’s answer these questions how do they work, what are the limits, and how is it being put to use today.
How do the self driving cars work, why they are safe?
The cars actually have fast laser pulses that measure and check the distance .“Google employees Velodyne’s rooftop Light Detection and Ranging system, which uses 64 lasers, spinning at upwards of 900 rpm, to generate a point cloud that gives the car a 360-degree view”(Source 2). The self driving cars are careful because they have special cameras in the front windshield which give a clear full 360 check and the cameras can tell the difference between the boundary lines and the road which, allows the car to move lanes and when the car moves the wheel has a short vibration letting you know what's happening.”Windshield-mounted cameras …show more content…
With driverless vehicles, the extra computers, internet connectivity and sensors increase the possible vulnerabilities. In a proof-of-concept attack, security researcher Jonathan Petit showed that lidar can be easily fooled into detecting a non-existent obstacle using a handheld laser pointer, which can force the car to slow down, stop or swerve.” (Source 3 ). Another possible limitation is that the driver-less could mistake a an object from something else.“Unlike a human who reacts instinctively in an emergency, an autonomous car will have to calculate and choose the appropriate response to each scenario, including possibly a choice between killing its occupants or other people.”(Source 4
