These people are also misunderstanding the basics of teaching. No one is saying to attack an unarmed opponent with a weapon, what you are teaching them is basics. It is easier to learn the basic maneuvers against a training partner without having to worry about his knife or gun when you first start out in the learning process.
Now since I mentioned guns this is another quick issue that I’d like to bring up. Many people will tell you that they would rather just carry a gun (having a conceal …show more content…
At a predetermined signal the attacker runs full speed at the potential victim. The shooter must draw his weapon and shoot the attacker without backing up (if he backs up he is adding distance and it is no longer 20 feet).
It was found that the attacker could travel the distance of 20 feet in 1.5 seconds! At 20 feet the shooter was able to fire the weapon and hit the attacker just as he reached and stabbed the shooter and at any distance closer than this the man with the knife was ALWAYS able to stab the shooter before he could be shot. That’s how the determination of 21 feet was established for the minimum amount of distance for safety.
Now I tell this story not to say that guns are ineffective but to show how dangerous and effective a knife can be. If you carry a knife, gun or any weapon...........know how to use it.
Once last point, just because you carry a weapon doesn’t mean that you are indestructible. Attacks are quick, deadly and violent and you can’t always get to your weapon in time to ward off your attacker which is where having adequate hand to hand skills come in handy, but that is another
