Some of the advantages of the Auburn Prison was the new design that that made from having 61 double prison cells to making them into solitary prison cells which would make it easier to handle the convicts when they were separated. I think it was a neat idea to have visitors that would come to visit the prison to see how the prison system worked and how it functioned. Also was how they had an admissions price that was only 12 ½ cents to enter until they had doubled it to discourage visitors from coming. With the money that they were making from the visitors and the admission fee at the time they could pay the salaries of the deputy keeper, a clerk, a turnkey, a chaplain, and a surgeon. One last thing I liked was when they formed the Mutual Welfare League which allowed the prisoner to have a voice in prison affairs.
Some of the disadvantages from the Pennsylvania Eastern State Penitentiary was the fact that it took the society more than thirty years to convince the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to build the prison that they suggested which was, a revolutionary was new building on farmland outside of Philadelphia.
