Aztec Influence On The Mayans

Mayans have unknown origins. The mayan people are believed to have settled in the yucatan area of modern day mexico between 2600 bc and 1800 bc. They had unknown cause of disappearance, probably because of disease, drought, or climate change. They were highly agricultural and produced precious metals and jade. Also they would craft tools and weapons from minerals such as obsidian, which at the time, could be revolutionary. Their lives were centered around work and religion, but children probably played simple games.

Aztecs are believed to originate as hunters and gatherers. They were highly developed, cultural and intellectual. They impressively developed a 365 day solar calendar. Their religious figures included
Huitzilopochtli, the god of the sun and war, and quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent. They celebrated them based on a 260 day calendar. They were known to be fierce and combative. Despite this, they were also quite artistic, as seen here.

The artifacts they had possessed were once believed to be from the mayans. Their name( meaning “rubber people”) was from the aztecs language, Nahuatl. Two of the most notable customs were an ritual ballgame and large head statues. Their ballgame had simple rules. Teams had to use all parts on their body, except for their hands and feet, to put a rubber ball through an elevated stone hoop to gain points, and the losers were sacrificed. The head statues tend to have large lips and slanted eyes. They probably represented kings or
