The Day of the Dead has its origins in Aztec traditions honoring the dead. Halloweens origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain believing it was the time ghosts and spirits came to haunt. The Day of the Dead and Halloween may look like similar holidays but they actually have very drastic differences. They are two separate holidays with different beliefs, meanings, festivities and different origins.

Traditionally Dia de los Muertos is celebrated in Mexico on November 1st and 2nd. Halloween is celebrated in the USA on October 31st. These holidays for different country are on different days of the year, therefore they are different.
