In the infant stage people are fairly developed and are reliant purely on their reflexes. Babies are born with the Moro reflex. The Moro reflex is often called a startle reflex because it usually occurs when a baby is startled by a loud sound or movement. In response to the sound, the baby throws back his or her head, extends out the arms and legs, cries, then pulls the arms and legs back in. a babies own cry may trigger this reflex.

They are instantly attached to one person often the mum or dad and this is their safe base which is the person a baby has a very strong connection with. They also enjoy games of peek-a-boo this is because they don’t have a good understanding of object permanence and believe if they can’t see your face that you have completely disappeared. This is also because babies only focus on basic shapes that make up the human face and once they are gone the person must be gone too. Babies also return a smile if you smile at them this is them learning the ways of communicating because they are begging to see what they do may cause you to react in a certain way like crying means you might change their nappy or give them something to eat.

A baby is also developing their language skills this is done through cooing and babbling cooing is just noise the make for a prolonged period of time and it is slowly developed into babbling which is where there is a distinguishable noise such as ‘dadada’ this is then going to change to words which is good because this means it is easier to communicate and show opinions and
