This was a major battle between Japan and the United States. The United States Navy Commanders that oversaw the Battle of Midway were Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, Rear Admiral Frank J. Fletcher, and Rear Admiral Raymond A. Spruance. The Imperial Japanese Army Commanders were Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto and Admiral Chuichi Nagumo. Prior to the Battle of Midway, the United States suffered a horrible defeat from the Japanese at Pearl Harbor The Battle of Midway was a major turning point in World War II against the Japanese.
