This is a real issue in today's practice. Bedside report allow smooth transition of care from the out-going to the incoming nurse, the patient can add any other information not mentioned in the handover report as well as ask questions on the plan of care. I know some of my collegues who are opposed to bedside report since it takes longer to handover and they are in a rush to leave but I always insist to go into each patient's room. The nurse need to keen not to violate the patient's privacy rights. If there are visitors I prefer to ask them to briefly step out after I found out that some will be unable to say no yet they did not want some of the family members or the visitors to know the details about their illness.
