Health promotion is the process of allowing people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It moves beyond a focus on individual behaviour towards a wide range of social and environmental interventions (Who.int, 2016). The factors which assist progress and development in today's world such as globalization of trade, urbanization, ease of global travel, advanced technologies, etc., act as a double-edged sword as they lead to positive health outcomes on one hand and increase the vulnerability to poor health on the other hand as these contribute to inactive lifestyles and unhealthy dietary patterns. Within the 21st century there is a high prevalence of tobacco use along with a high increase in unhealthy diets and a decrease in physical activity this is contributing to an increase in biological risk factors which could potentially be a long term health issue (Kumar and Preetha, 2012).

A holistic approach is used best with the change of somebody’s diet as this approach as a holistic view means we are interested in engaging and developing the whole person not just a certain aspect like the biomedical approach so this is beneficial to the whole body not just one area (Ballentine, 2004). Failures considered surrounding the behavioural approach can relate to the approach being time intensive due to it being about a whole persons behaviour not just a specified area, also as it is a persons behaviour there is not often a clear outcome as there are endless possibilities for the underlying health issue reason.
