Cultural Competence is when you have awareness, respect and understanding of the cultural differences surrounding your life. It is something that we need to continue to strive to, rather than just comply with laws and policies. It is when we develop relationships then we really honour and celebrate the cultural differences. It is when we put aside our feelings and prejudices about a certain culture and manage it as a professional. When we manage it, it allows us to give the same teaching and learning opportunities to all children despite their culture.
