Being a first-generation college student gives me an intense feeling of pride, even though I feel afraid and a bit overwhelmed. Going through the application and financial aid process has been challenging since there is no previous experience to pull from. I feel proud because I plan to accomplish something that my parents didn’t, which is to have a college education and get a degree. I can be a role model for my younger sister and cousins, showing them that a college degree is obtainable. As far as my feelings of fear, that’s just because it is unknown territory. I have no doubts that I will make many friends and learn and experience many different things. I plan to join clubs and become involved with the campus community through events, groups,
