How much are they really getting from the government, and what is this money going towards? The International Business Times was the latest published resource concerning these questions. The article continued to state, “the government is the largest source of revenue for Planned Parenthood, contributing 41 percent, or $528.4 million, of $1.3 billion in revenue, according to the group’s 2013-2014 annual report” (Whitman). As well as about thirty percent coming from private sources. Planned Parenthood was able to show what services took the most amount of money in their annual report. However there were many times where the services became questionable. Their report stated that “11% were other women services,” while another “1% were other services” (Whitman). President Barack Obama is one of the many people who are fighting for Planned Parenthood to remain being funded by the government. He believes that if Planned Parenthoods funding was taken away all the women who cannot afford healthcare will loose their right to quality of life. He urges people to see what they mean when they say to take the funding away from Planned Parenthood. It could kill an innocent woman who has cervical cancer, however couldn’t be screened and told that she had it. Or another woman, who contracted HIV, but was never able to receive the test to confirm it. Taking funding away from Planned Parenthood means more than just stopping the funding of abortions, it means taking away from essential services women need ("President Obama Stands…”). In the United States poverty levels are rising and many people are unable to afford to see a physician.
