Individuals that drink excessively and for a long period of time can develop diseases like alcoholic hepatitis also known as liver inflammation or liver scarring that can become severe if drinking continues. Liver diseases that are caused by alcohol consumption can lead to death if left untreated and continued use of alcohol persists. Alcohol that the liver does not break down will go to the rest of the human body which includes the brain, it can affect the parts of the brain that control speech, judgment and memory. Children who live in home with an alcoholic parent tend to have lower grades in school, depression, are more socially isolated and have a higher chance of drinking heavily when they become adults. Children who live in a home with a least one alcoholic parent will mimic their parents behavior, they will observe the drinking patterns, the mood of the parent and will eventually be curious enough to try some type of alcoholic beverage when they are young. Excessive drinking can lead to financial problems, resulting from the risky behavior such as gambling, spending most of the funds on purchasing more to drink, paying for a DUI and loss of unemployment.
