As a biological parent of a child you have certain legal rights and responsibilities you need to be aware of to ensure you are not disadvantaged in any way, particularly when entering your child into the education system.
What is a biological parent? A biological parent is a parent who has conceived or sired a child and whose genes are therefore transmitted to the child.
What is included in this brochure? An outline to the legal rights of a biological parent in relation to a child’s education and schooling and information on areas to contact when seeking further information.

Enrolments will begin in April the year prior to your child beginning school. It is your obligation as a parent to contact the school and attend the necessary interviews in order to enrol your child at your selected school.
The current legislation for school leaving age states that in NSW, student must have finished Year 10 and then continue in education and training, be in full-time work, or a combination of education/ training and employment until the age of 17.
