I grew up in one of the most polluted areas of the country (surrounded by farms!) and although neither side of my family has any history of skin sensitivities or allergies and although I played outside and wasn't overprotected I definitely have had skin issues my whole life.
Growing up I just couldn't play in sandboxes because my legs and arms would instantly be covered in hives that made people panic. I was literally allergic to sand. I'd get hives so bad they'd start bleeding within a couple hours and they would take weeks to fade away and I was always itchy bc of it. Sometimes they'd go up to my neck, constantly they'd get on my stomach. I faired better in grass/dirt but even then it didn't leave my skin happy and it was just easier to limit that to a couple hours at a time. My mom tried not to overbathe me thinking it would be good but sometimes it was impossible cause I was burning up. I've always had minor food intolerances to certain types of food that grew around me in abundance (make me itchy, rashes). My mother also developed some skin sensitivities after a while and allergies to pollen. My sister didn't have as bad reactions as a child but she grew into pretty bad eczema reactions and extremities
