Farley investigated the purposes of birth order in families that consist of only two siblings by studying the higher order of personality dimensions of extraversion-introversion and neuroticism. The research was done in the year 1973 and the participants involved in the research were one hundred and forty-one female undergraduates from University of Wisconsin. The subjects were chosen with entire control over genders of sibling and the age separation between the siblings. The participants were categorized into five groups; the only child, the firstborn with a male or a female sibling and the second born with a male or a female sibling. Each and every participant was supervised using the Eysenck Personality Inventory, Form A in which scores were calculated in the means of extraversion-introversion, neuroticism as well as a validity score.
