A disease that swept through Europe during the mid 14th century.
Claimed an estimated 60% of the European population.
Originated in Central Asia.
Carried along the Silk Road and other trading routes.
Spread by infected fleas carried on rats, but was also airborne. (Coughing & Sneezing)
People did not understand how disgusting their way of life was or did not have any sense of hygiene.
For instance, they often disposed of their waste in streets, so then the streets would be in coated with feces and urine.
Many people believed that the Black Death was a kind of divine punishment–retribution for sins against God.
By this logic, the only way to overcome the plague was to win God’s forgiveness.
