The 10th through the 13th centuries had been fairly prosperous for Europe with feudalism bringing about political and social stability, furthermore with advancements in agriculture being made and relatively few diseases Europe’s population skyrocketed from 25 million in 950 to 75 million in 1250 (McMullin 12).
