The Life and Times of Bob Marley
Bob Marley can be seen by many as a very influential person who made it from poverty to stardom. Bob Marley was an amazing musician who encountered many struggles in his early life as well as his adulthood. Even though he endured several hardships, he prospered and accomplished much, while receiving a great number of honors as well as awards throughout his musical career. Bob Marley was born Robert Nesta Marley in Nine Mile, Jamaica to Cedella Booker and Norval Marley, who are two different races (Steckles 1-2). During Bob’s childhood, he played with homemade games and was noticed by many as a friendly, lovable kid (Steckles 1-7). Oddly enough, bob had managed to get his first single “simmer down” to number one on the music top 100 charts in Jamaica. In addition, to him getting his single at number one, he also played his music at the iconic studio one (Steckles 35-38). Bob had his very first accomplishment of his adult life when he signed with JAD records, which ironically was the record company that sponsored the wailers. Strangely enough, at the same time he signed with JAD records he was also apart of the rastafarian movement which helped jamaicans get an understanding of their origin (Steckles 48-52). Furthermore, Bob and the Wailers managed to make two albums named Soul rebels and Soul revolution..Within one of the albums, Bob and the Wailers had their song Trench Town Rock number one for five straight months (Steckles 66-73). As a result, of having so many number one hits on his albums bob and the wailers decided to add one more albums this one being called catch a fire which was their first album with Island records. Astoundingly, they managed to sell fourteen thousand records within the first year of releasing to the public (Steckles 83-88).
